Hi everyone,

I’m really missing our weekly face-to-face art classes which have had to be suspended for the time being, we had just successfully completed the fourth class of a ten week term and I will resume where we left off as soon as the restrictions are lifted, which will hopefully be in December just in time for Christmas fun (particularly ginger bread house making).

In the meantime I am delighted to be launching a NEW ZOOM ART CLASS starting next week.

How will it work?

I will set up a zoom class on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3.00pm-4.00pm.

Classes will run for three weeks only up until the end of November.

The student attends one class per week which is pre-booked.

I will provide ALL materials for the three weeks which can be collected from me after school from outside Clontarf GAA club after school this Friday 6th November or Monday 9th November between 1.00pm-2.45pm. (If you cannot collect let me know and we can make an alternative arrangement).

Booking and payment must be made in advance and the cost for the three weeks plus all the materials will be €35.00 per person.

To reserve a place just phone or message me on 087 9585031.

The classes are not restricted to my current students ….. friends and siblings… even parents … are welcome to book a place too.

WEEK 1

COLOUR MIXING…. great fun experimenting with the three primary colours.

MATERIALS PROVIDED: paint – crimson, yellow, cian and white, brush, tissues, cardboard palette for mixing colours and a colouring sheet on card.  Just add water!!

Children always respond well to the challenge of mixing colours, we will explore making secondary colours and then I will encourage them to expand their palette to make more complicated shades and tones.

WEEK 2

LITTLE CRITTERS, using a squishy soft dough that’s easy to manipulate.

MATERIALS PROVIDED: white air dough and smaller amounts of blue, yellow and red air dough, goggley eyes/black beads, some feathers, plastic tool for making marks and a white sheet of card to use as a clean work surface.

Children adore making little animals from this marshmallowy dough which is clean and dries within a day or two.  We will also expand colour mixing learned from the week before to make new pastel shades to work with.

WEEK 3

THE CAT’S CHORUS – drawing and colouring with soft pastels.

MATERIALS PROVIDED: Pencil, rubber, sharpener, box of 12 soft pastels, red and purple sugar paper.

Children love to tell a story in their pictures, in this lesson I will teach them how to draw a simple cat and then show examples of how to place them in a scene with different type of props (depending on what the naughty cats are up to).  When we have successfully drawn our pictures I will demonstrate the best way to colour using the soft (chalk) pastels.

HOW WILL ZOOM WORK?

I will use two screens, the first facing the project of the day and the second on me!  That way students can clearly see what I am doing with my hands and can also see and hear me at the same time. I may have to mute their sound so I can be heard clearly.  In fact it will be the first lesson I will have run without wearing a mask since last March!!!

On the day of the lesson I will send a zoom link to students and they join at 2.55pm on Tuesday’s, Wednesday’s or Thursdays.  I can set up extra classes if needed.

Children can ask for help any time using their unmute button and if I can’t see their work they may need to hold it up to their screens so I can see how to help.
